Access to the best thinkers in Australia to construct better portfolios
Investment committees are essential to advice organisations that are making strategic decisions on how they manage client capital within model portfolios on managed account-enabled platforms.
A best practice investment committee is a forum whereby investment strategies, asset allocation and product provision can be discussed and debated being deployed into client portfolios. It also introduces a broader macro-economic and geo-political context to inform portfolio construction. It provides the infrastructure that a successful advice group needs to invest client funds in the modern practice environment.
But an investment committee is a difficult thing for a small advice firm to create and run.
As part of insiders, a membership-based community for financial advisers and their practices, The Inside Network is delighted to offer the Brilliant Investment Committee – a virtual, outsourced investment committee that members can access. For practices that do not have such a body, or want a second opinion, the Brilliant Investment Committee will bring together some of the best thinkers in the Australian financial landscape to fill the role of a permanent, interactive investment committee of which insiders members can ask salient investment questions.
Encompassing regular quarterly sessions as well as ad hoc sessions with special asset class and sector-focused agendas, the Brilliant Investment Committee is a resource that no independent advice firm can afford to be without.
In the inaugural (April) meeting of the Brilliant Investment Committee, a notional asset allocation and a notional Reference Portfolio were presented and disseminated.
In the second meeting of the Brilliant Investment Committee, in July, attendees learned about the macroeconomic and geopolitical influences that might justify changes to these settings. They also had their chance to give their opinion on whether the portfolio should be changed.
In the upcoming third meeting, on Friday 18 October, the committee will summarise the strategic asset allocation that was adopted for attendees who may have missed the opening meetings. The committee will examine the portfolio performance and look at the tilts adopted at the July meeting, and whether these have added or detracted value.
Again, the committee will canvass the macro-economic and geo-political influences that might justify changes to these settings, with particular emphasis on the possible implications of the US Election result and the likelihood of US recession, as well as the view from Asia and Europe.
